Payson has two large parks, Green Valley Park and Rumsey Park. A community swimming pool is located near Rumsey Park as well as a dog park and a small skatepark for skating enthusiasts. The town hosts free outdoor concerts in the park during the summer and throughout the year hosts several intramural sports such as baseball, soccer, and football.

Green Valley Park

Green Valley Park is a 45-acre park at the west end of Main Street that features three lakes and several decorative fountains. As part of the Arizona Game and Fish Department's urban fishing program, the three lakes are stocked with rainbow trout from October to May.  Picnic ramadas and a grassy amphitheater complete the park's family atmosphere.   More Information...

Rumsey Park

Deming Pioneer Plaza

Dedicated in April 2004, this historic Main Street corner has been developed as a “history park” serving as an outdoor open-air museum. This Main Street corner depicts and showcases the Payson Pioneers who helped create this wonderful mountain community.     More Information...

Mustang Park

Mustang Park is a small quarter acre neighborhood “pocket park”. This park consists of a small picnic shelter, children’s playground equipment and a half court basketball goal.

Green Valley Park was officially dedicated on October 19, 1996. Dozens of people use the park daily for various activities & events: walking, fishing, boating, picnicking, skating, and general recreation and relaxation. This project is a major asset to Payson and the surrounding area.  The Green Valley Park provides three lakes having a total surface area of 13.1 acres, 17.2 acres of grass, trees and shrubs, three picnic ramadas, two public restrooms, 3.8 miles of walking paths, boating and fishing facilities, picnic and outdoor cooking facilities, paved parking areas, and a complete irrigation system and pump station for the landscaped areas.  The Green Valley Park master plan also indicates the future construction of a multi-use building with a concession area, a larger fishing dock, and enhanced landscaping as the need arises and funds for construction are available.   Green Valley Park is part of Arizona's Urban Fishing Program and is recognized nationally as one of the best in the country. The program is a partnership with the Game and Fish Department and local Parks and Recreation Department to intensively stock and manage the park lake for fishing recreation. Simply put, the program operates on the premise that "if people can't get out of town to fish, we will bring fish in to town for the people." The program provides convenient, affordable, accessible, and fun fishing for anglers of all ages and abilities. Green Valley Park is a cooperative water reclamation project between the Northern Gila County Sanitary District and the Town of Payson. This award-winning park has been designed to recharge the Town’s water table through passive percolation of treated effluent (about 325 acre/ft per year) leaking through the lake bottoms into the aquifer. The lakes also provide a means of distribution and storage of the reclaimed water for reuse customers throughout town and for irrigation of landscaping in the park.   The reuse of reclaimed water helps both to conserve and preserve Payson's potable water resources. Along with the protection, preservation, and replenishment of the limited local water supplies and an increased opportunity for leisure time and recreation activities, the Green Valley Park Project offers other regional benefits such as street improvements, Main Street redevelopment enhancements,  and an aesthetically pleasing area that adds to the betterment of the quality of life in the community. The park is also an excellent example of how a project may be constructed to perform its intended engineering functions and still be aesthetically pleasing to the environment. Directions: From Phoenix – Take Highway 87 to Payson – Take a left on Main Street, go approximately 1.1 miles to the end of Main Street and you are at Green Valley Park. From The White Mountains - Take Highway 260 to Payson – Turn left on Highway 87 going south.
