The Goat Camp Ruins Trail in PATS is a 0.3 mile connector from Tyler Parkway out to the Houston Trail, halfway between Horse Camp and Houston Mesa Trailhead. This connector trail passes through archaeological ruins from past Native American residents, including buried pit houses and pottery shards. This is a NON-MOTORIZED TRAIL only, and exits onto US Forest Service land to the north through a horse gate.
Future trail development will include a side interpretive trail for the archaeological ruins.
Hikers can park along the north side of Tyler Parkway to access the trail, located at 1000 E. Tyler Parkway. A green Trail Access sign will be seen with the PATS logo, along with wooden steps.
Please DO NOT remove any archaeological ruins, including pottery and rocks, from the Goat Camp Ruins site.

The Goat Camp Ruins Trail and future interpretive archaeological side trail and site are located on the north side of Tyler Parkway, at 1000 W. Tyler Parkway. This is a 6+ acre parcel of land that is owned by the Town of Payson and contains archaeological ruins from former Native American Rim Country residents.
The current PATS trail on Goat Camp skirts the east side of the Native American Ruins, and connects the trail user from Tyler Parkway to the USFS Houston Trail on the north side of the site. This trail is approximately 0.3 miles in length until you reach the Houston Trail connector.
In conjunction with the US Forest Service and Rim Country Chapter of the Arizona Archaeological Society, the Town of Payson’s plans are to develop the site into a passive interpretive archaeological park with a side interpretive trail off of the main PATS Goat Camp Ruins Trail.
In April 2010, the Holbrook Pyle Foundation made a generous donation that enabled the installation of a protective fence around the 6 acre parcel. This then led to the construction of the PATS Goat Camp Ruins Trail.
This trail is for non-motorized use only. There is parking available on both shoulders of Tyler Parkway, but no designated parking lot at this time.
